Educated at the University of Cambridge, Ben’s work is defined by rhythmic discipline and intellectual structure. As the lead architect of the Diocese of Leeds Music and National Schools Singing Programmes, he has engineered world-class musical environments and UK-wide educational systems for tens of thousands of young people.
His music-making is a synthesis of three distinct disciplines: the weight of English Cathedral tradition, the raw percussive energy of his background as a rock drummer, and the mechanical intimacy of the Bayan (Classical Accordion). These instruments demand a unique combination of spatial communication and technical mastery that defines his approach to the organ.
Following tenures at the cathedrals of Chester, Blackburn, and St Giles Edinburgh, he served as a Director of Leeds Conservatoire from 2013 to 2025 and was appointed Visiting Professor at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana, in 2015.
Ben has performed for the late HM the Queen, Princess Anne, and US President Carter, and collaborated with conductor Carl Davis and jazz virtuoso Dick Hyman. His international solo career includes concerts across France, Italy, Holland, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Russia, and the United States.
Featured on Brilliant Classics, Naxos, and Herald AV, his discography includes Maurice Duruflé, Arvo Pärt, Georgi Mushel, Dick Hyman and Hendrik Andriessen. These recordings span sacred tradition to jazz virtuosity.

"Is there any other British cathedral organist in a rock band? Revolutionary work…. the mixture of adventurism and self-discipline brings dividends.... that’s why they call him a breath of fresh air.”
